Daniel Stier

Daniel Stier is a german photographer who now takes most of his photographs in new york and london he said the industry here is just completely different there isn't anything like it in germany. he does his images in series, if he likes on image he cant just leave it as one image he has to create other images to go in the sequence, to make it into a story. he does a lot of work for people this is where he gets told what they want and then he has to try and make something good out of what they need. He said this is hard sometimes because he is given a rubbish place to take photograph's and he has to think quickly because the more famous the person the less time he has with them. He has been given a hotel room with 10 minutes and he said it was really hard to take good images in such a dull place, but he mainly tried to find the nearest white wall to have them in front of.

He has done a series of images called any two for five, i like this series of his images because he had in some cases put completely different things together in an image such as washing powder with a raw chicken drumstick, i think this makes the images more interesting because anyone can get objects and put them together that could be found in a offer such as two for five. these images are simple but effective.

i also like his portrait work because he has taken photo's of lots of famous people and made good images out of not so good places, such as there is a photo of amy winehouse and she is just leaning on a chair in a hotel looking room, and when he showed us this image he said it suits the person because she comes across as not a classy high rated woman and the image shows this because the place does look very nice.  i think he does really good portrait images because he gets a series of the people such as his series of images of Roberto Cavalli he has got a lot of images of him in all different out fits and this really shows the character of Roberto because he is well known for his fashion obsession

i like what Daniel Stier said "i don't do talks, thats why i take photographs." i think this relates to me because i like to show what i thinking and what i like in my images rather than talking about it.

Street photography

The above images are the beginning of a series of images following someone around and taking a photograph of different places that the person has been. i decided just to take the photographs of the persons legs and feet this is because it will be taken from a level where you wont necessarily recognise where the person has been, it also keeps the identity of the person hidden. i have edited these images to black and white and changed the levels on some of the images, i think this make the images more effective and i prefer this series in black and white. i still have more images to take for this series, i think the last image that i take it will be of a girl and a boy so the series is like a story of a girl searching for someone and i think the last image that i take will be a full length image still from behind but it will give more of a clue of where the couple are and who they are.  i think this will add to the story because it will be as if she has found who she is now she has found him and she is no longer walking around looking.

The image above is an image that i captured when i was out taking photos for my street photography assignment. i really like this image i edited it in photoshop to make the immage look more how i wanted it to i want it to look "older" i think this looks alot better than the original image. this was an image that i managed to get just before the man moved this is a typical example of when you need to be quick and ready at any point to take photographs. i like this because i dont know who the man is or what he is doing it has a story behind the image that no-one knows apart from the man in the photograph.

One shot

in this assignment we had to take a photograph of an object of our own or something that we had found. we also had to include a person in the image. when we was taking the photograph we had to think if the image would look good as a square as when we had taken the image we was too then crop the image to 8" x 8". I thought i would choose an object and a location that there can be a story behind the image, so it lets the viewer feel emotion in the image.

I chose a ring on top of a bin because it was if to show that love doesn't always last and marriages can be broken, so i tried to show that in this image. i thought it was good that someone was putting out a cigarette at the time the photograph was taken this is because it shows that this situation happens a lot and people just deal with it these days and carry on.

I think the image works well because i haven't cropped too much so that you can't tell that the green item is a bin because if cropped it slightly more then it would have lost the round edge at the top which shows the viewer that it is a bin.

I also like this image because it is cropped into a square with two circles inside of it i think this is effective and give the image more depth.
