Ali Lomas

Ali was born in burton-upon trent so it was good to see how well her work has become as it brings it closer to home that we can make it if we try hard enough. she got herself a first class degree from Loughborough university in 2009.

she inspired me because she is interested in portrait and fashion photography which i am also. i think its good to have people come and talk to us about the kind of work that we are interested in doing our selfs.

she has got her own style of photography which brings together elements of fine art and fashion photography.

most of Ali's work is of girls they all seem to have this dull look about them as if there all upset about something, this theme seems to run through all of her images. i think i would prefer to take more lively and colourful photographs.

Jon Burgerman

Jon Burgerman is from Nottingham and he studied at Bournville, birmingham and then studied at university in Nottingham. Jon has produced designs for exhibitions and iphone apps and video games.
Jon burgerman came into burton college and spoke to our class about his work and what inspired him to make work the way that he does. He makes what seems to be doodles, these have been very popular as he has made things such as colour in wall paper and bags and other merchandise which has been really affective. he uses all different colours in each of his "doodles" sometimes he just uses 3-4 colours or sometimes he uses a lot of different colours. i prefer the "doodles" which have lots of colours in them this makes them bright and eye catching. his work takes hours to produce as he has to draw the out line of all the characters and then he has to colour them all in i think his work is different to anything i have seen before and that is why i think it is so popular.

Ed Swinden

Ed Swinden uses light and patterns to create interesting images this image is from when he did the competition shoot the street which he won. Ed is based in manchester and covering the north of england, Ed has been helping clients "get the picture" since 2004 all enjoy the same professional, friendly and personal service. ed offers a creative approach to all of his work as this is clearly shown in the images above as the use of shadows and light and patterns are commonly used to create interesting images. it is also shown that he uses photoshop to enhance the images so the colours stand out.

Jill Cole

Jill Cole came to Burton to show her work and speak about being an emerging art photographer. Jill began her photography as a second career after working for twelve years as an agricultural economist. In 2004, with two young children at home, joined Cleveland College of Art and Design, to study for a degree course and graduated in 2008.
Jill cole produced a great series called "Guns" in 2007. this was a great way of her showing what a big problem television and toy shops and games are showing guns and crime all the time in the british society in our everyday lives. jill went to great lengths to show how much "guns" were exactly shown in our children's life's, she also took photographs of shop newspaper boards with the latest story's on showing when the latest news is about gun crime.

Shortly after that, Jill went on to photograph army recruits, noticing how young they were. This work won her the Fuji film Student Awards in 2007.  Jill decided to revisit one of the recruits that she had photographed a year earlier. the boy who she had documented on had since left the army and Jill made a short documentary of him.

Within the overall title of Training Land, Jill produced a third chapter of work, Birds. Within the army garrison is a nature reserve where a bird ringing programme takes place. Jill created a series of eighteen images hoping they would express what she was trying to say about the army and people caught up in war. a lot of jills work is to do with conflict i think her work is very strong and has a very strong case behind it as these are all issues that are happening in this day and age.

Julian Germain

Julian Germain studied photography in nottingham trent and the college of arts in london, he has published a few books and he is also on the editorial board for a magazine called "useful information"

julian Germain doesn't just use his own photographs in his books and projects he uses historical images and pictures from a variety of different sources. in his books and projects he uses themes that run through several of them such as "for every minute that you are angry you loose 60 seconds of happiness" and his project "the running line" these both reflect julian's belief in the value of amateur and functional images.

he has also done projects with brazilian artists which all the proceeds from the projects have gone to building things such as a library to improve the towns, he did this because he had been working with the street children letting them actually produce the imagery. so the children could see the work that they had done there work got shown to the public through posters and free newspapers.

i really like his work especially the work that he has done in the poorer parts of the world, i particularly like the image above with the people playing football in the back ground and the sun and the clouds making a sort of boarder around the image. i think this makes his photograph very affective. i also like how it shows that this is a poor country because in the image second above they literally have nothing just each other. i like work that shows the rest of the world whats going on.

he displays his work on street walls and newspaper and magazines etc. he presents his work very well
all of his work seems to have a purpose behind it i think this artist because he doesn't just make good work but he also shares the experience with the less fortunate and gives them a chance to make there own photographs.
